About

I am a creative. I love to dream up special gatherings and experiences, beautiful food, flower gardens, and turn spaces in art experiences. Nature is at the heart of what I do and the connection between women and nature fascinates me. I am crazy about creating site specific large scale installation work because of the impact it has on a space and the people who encounter it. I am an explorer and get a little excited about helping other discover their creativity and legacy.

I have been a gallery and installation artist for over twenty-five years and my work can be found in over one hundred public spaces, galleries in Santa Fe, NM and Denver, CO as well as in private collections around the world.

Artist Statement

Creating is my means of immersing myself in my surroundings. It compels me to observe things as they truly are, rather than through the lens of my preconceptions. By closely examining the world around me – the delicate balance of a bird on a branch or the unfolding petals of a flower basking in sunlight – I deepen my understanding of nature and my connection to it.

My artistic process is akin to layering coats of paint on a canvas, mirroring the intricate layers of the landscape or a compelling story. Through this process, I forge a deeper bond with the subject matter.

I incorporate found objects into my work as a tribute to the women who came before me and the profound impact of their stories on my life, my environment, and my narrative. Whether it's wood, paper, modeling paste, beads, thread, buttons, doilies, lace, utensils, or any other material that resonates with me in the moment, these elements find their way into my creations.

My large-scale installations often center around themes of nature – from butterfly-adorned walls to towering floral displays or majestic mountain vistas. These immersive artworks are not only meant to be observed but to envelop viewers in an experience, inviting them to step into a world where nature and art converge.

Artist Bio

Carol Fennell is a mixed media artist whose thick multi layered canvases explore the the whimsy in the Colorado countryside where she calls home. The ever changing landscape and our connection to it inspires her work. She strives not to imitate but to bring her whimsical nature into each piece.

She grew up in a small farming community in Indiana where she ran barefoot in thick green grass and daydreamed under a blue sky. Spending most days outdoors digging, planting, and harvesting from the land, she has always felt a special connection to nature and her role in it. Her style has developed to include found objects that represent women’s past like buttons, thread, doilies, cooking utensils, aprons, and lace.

Her passion for creativity extends beyond her art. She has authored “The Creativity Connection”, which encourages everyone to reap the benefits of creativity, whether you believe you are creative or not. She is co-founder of Thrive Creative Community, where she supports other creatives, and is an end of life doula, where she helps people find their purpose and legacy whether at the end of life or just starting out.

A highly collected artist, Fennell has had gallery representation across the US, has shown in museums, and has created over a hundred site specific large scale installations. Presently, her work can be found in Santa Fe at Ahmyo River Gallery and Evergreen Gallery in Colorado.

She received her Masters of Fine Art in Painting and Drawing from Northern Illinois University
